I'm on a mission to impact our budget even more this year with homemade recipes. I will be sharing the ones I've personally tried out and recommend! I plan to try out not only recipes to use in the kitchen, but also household recipes. Here's the first one:
Homemade Syrup:
2 c sugar
1c water
1 tsp maple extract
Bring water and sugar to a slow boil over low heat, stirring constantly. Remove from heat before it comes to a rolling boil. Add flavoring as it is cooling. Store in the refrigerator.
Cost Analysis (24 oz):
Homemade: $.30
Store Bought: $4.00
(*No preservatives or high fructose corn syrup!)
My entire family LOVES this syrup, especially my hubby. I recommend you save your last syrup bottle to store it in....syrup dripping down a plastic container is a mess! :)
Enjoy!
You can also make other flavors!!! Same method, but instead of maple, use 1 koolaid packet. I've only made strawberry (for milk.) But this post reminds me that any flavor could be good on waffles or pancakes!
ReplyDeleteI also make my own choc. syrup similarly - with cocoa. (my daughter is allergic to corn...that's why I've gone this route)
