- Organic peanut butter is peanut butter made from ingredients which have been grown without the use of pesticides. Studies have linked pesticides to cancer and neurological disorders.
- Natural peanut butter is usually made form peanuts that are treated with pesticides, but this product usually does not contain partially hydrogenated vegetable oil.
- Regular peanut butter usually contains partially hydrogenated vegetable oil. From a health viewpoint, the added partially hydrogenated vegetable oil in regular peanut butter contain trans fats, which is linked to numerous health issues, such as raising levels of bad cholesterol and lowering levels of good cholesterol.
"Organic" is a label widely and strictly regulated by governments such as the USA's, while "Natural" is not. The US government does regulate the use of "natural" but on a case by case basis. The rule is basically " free of artificial or synthetic ingredients or additives, including color, flavor or any ingredient “not normally expected.”
In conclusion, the twenty cents extra it costs at Dillons to buy organic peanut butter is very worth it, in my opinion! What do you think? All opinions are welcomed.
I buy it at Trader Joes. The only thing it contains is peanuts. :-)
