For those of you with babies who eat solids, or who will be eating solids soon, it's a good idea to start planning ahead. During the summer months, produce is at it's cheapest and is often more fresh than produce available during the winter. Because of this, it's a great moneysaver to purchase the produce and make up your baby food now, so that your child can have low cost, fresh fruit in the winter months.
An easy way to freeze your homemade baby food is to pour the prepared puree into ice cube containers and freeze. Once frozen, simply pop them out and place them in labeled freezer bags to be pulled out when you are ready to use.
Even if your child is currently not taking solids, consider stocking up now. Chances are, they will be ready during the winter or early spring months when produce is only found at high prices.
